Blizz Corn

Blizzard held their annual convention last week, conveniently named "Blizzcon" to avoid confusion as last years infamous "Toastboypants" event only managed to attract fat pedophiles. The event is swarmed with geeky lads and lasses the world around, all with the common ground of Blizzard game interest, the main one being the online heroin that is World of Warcraft.

The folks here at Five Thumbs Down managed to make it to the Anaheim Convention Center in California with a dodgy camera and a bad attitude. It was hard to blend in with the crowd due to my level 70 Blood Elf paladin only having 5 epics... I was an outsider from the beginning, but the expensive stripper I hired to walk around with me and flash some breast helped the FTD crew gain an all access pass.

Let's enjoy the photos now shall we?

Due to a scheduling error, the cleaning staff arrived 8 hours early to the function room. The new uniforms designed by clothing staple "Greg" caused some arousement in the more sweaty boys present. Note the red calves on the man in the background.

Here we have a Dranei Mage, a really good effort at cosplay if you don't mind me saying, the horns and overall attractiveness of the girl in costume helped win her some points. I managed to get a photo as she approached Amy Winehouse for an autograph.

I'd be lying if I told you I knew what was going on in this photo, it looks like a glam rock 80's muppet fending off some form of garbage monster.

These two happy girls managed to woo the boys in the centre with their "approachable" looks and cheerful demeanour. They even managed to score some coupons for 600 rape dollars..

.. from this guy..

Another decent Dranei costumer, unfortunate that one of the main speakers from Toastboypants 2007 managed to find his way here this year... Jeff appears to be doing some construction in his pantaloons...

This costume came in second place of the event. I think she did rather well.

Captain Bumbles reporting! Set sails for faggotry!

That's how we roll in Asia.

Yet another Dranei, only this time she's joined by a sexy pirate, and confused A-Team fan.

A glimpse into the classy life of a Blizzard employee.

Greg: "I say what what, let's release Starcraft II 5 months late!"

Pevil: "Indubious! I think you've earned another balloon in your hat!"

Greg: "My urine stings upon exit..."

Clearly these two were paid to attend....

Clearly she was paid to leave....

I managed to score this rare photograph of a WoW player exerting the most physical energy in a single day. plus he looks like a douche..
World of Warcraft's single Romanian player.

And finally, Blizzard announced the new class for the upcoming expansion. "Slutty Attention Whore" will be available to the Elf races, and will gain more bonuses with less armour worn.

5 stereotypes of gaming

As pretty much the entire world knows, World of Warcraft has been the frontrunner of the MMORPG genre. And those of you who don't know what MMORPG stands for I envy you, you clearly have more free time than me. But I've no problem there.

I find that the people who turn their noses up the most at WoW are ex-addicts and people who think they're suprerior and have never played it, the kind of people who say they're too busy all the time and when you ask them "what's new" they say "not much".

Everything is fun in moderation, WoW is the exact same, I play a fair amount of it because there is nothing on TV and I can chat to my friends over it whenever I want, but I don't go to bed at 4am, the house isn't a mess, and my writing doesn't get done. Yes I do sometimes sit at the PC from when I get home to when I get to bed, but those nights are rare and usually occur after a long day at work when I just don't want to do anything else but something I enjoy.

Plus at $20 a month it's probably the best vaule for money around, alot of people scoff at the concept of a paid subscription to a game and then spend 30 dollars at the movie for 2 hours worth of entertainment on a movie that will probably suck, not to mention the petrol it cost to get there.

I could rant and rave about it more but who cares, the people who like WoW will agree with me and the people who don't like it can shove it.

But enough ranting, here comes the funny!

5 stereotypes of online gamers.
This is taken from my experiences in all online games, not just Warcraft.

- The 12yr old
With the ever growing rate of neglectful parents and desensitisation to violence and sex, you're bound to find more and more 12yr olds playing Call of Duty 4 at 2am on a Tuesday morning than ever before, they're rude, they're horrible at the game they're playing, and they're prone to tantrums.

The 12yr old is typically male with a squeaky voice, more squeaky than your typical 12yr old, they always choose the most flashiest character and weapons, as they have no understanding of strategy and tactics. They will rush head first into danger and then abuse everyone when they die, and it will always be in a high pitched whiney voice.

This creature will ask questions about how to change hotkeys and graphics settings, will dissapear and reappear into the game constantly and sometimes just stand there doing nothing while they're getting yelled at by a parent, they will always ask for help with the most simple task, and then swear at you if you don't agree to assist.

They also like to have the worst names in existence, like xxKilermanxx

- The underranked dictator
This person is hard to pick out straight away, they look like every other player, they don't have anything better than you in terms of rank or gear, and you think they are just a regular player slogging it out just like you. But they're not.

As soon as you're losing a round in CoD, not healing fast enough in WoW or you just moved slightly to the left instead of the right, this person will explode.

The dictator will bark orders at everyone and then blame you all when something goes wrong, he is the perfect player and knows everything about the game, despite being a lower rank than you.

- The superior moron
The moron is the guy with the highest ranking achieveable, with the best gear around. He has the golden AK47, all the achievements in multiplayer, epic gear out the arse, and his mere presence intimidates you.

That is until he plays.

The superior moron will die constantly, forget to heal, teamkill... you name it. And it makes you wonder what kind of person can get all this great stuff whilst being a complete tool at the game.

The only answer is Wing Pu, the asian guy he hired to get all the best stuff.

- The girl

An uncommon sight in most games, the girl never travels in packs and likes to talk about normal things, like music and her interests.

Chat activity increases 400% when a guild or room realises one of the characters is indeed female.

- The Anti-Socialite
This guy should, by all counts, be a normal mature being, but they are racist, sexist, abusive, and unfunny.

usually an early 30's man who lives with his mum, this guy cracks "nigga" and "chink" jokes and likes to talk about disgusting sex acts in an abnormal way to get respect and friends, but he just turns out to be a loser in his 30's who lives with his mum...

This guy is the type of person who found out about September 11 on October 4th, stuck in his own little world masturbating furiously to cartoons of animal people.

Avoid this creature, he is the worst of them all.

Do yourself a favour, Read Watchmen.

The comic book movie industry is booming, and alot of it has to do with nostalgia, a key driving force behind the purchases by anyone aged 16 to 45. People see a trailer for Iron Man and say to themselves "I remember him, he was cool", beause anything slightly good as a child is magnified tenfold when you're older, that is the only reason balding men walk around with Decepticon tshirts and think they're awesome.

So the comic book movies have been on the steady increase, but they're nothing from the norm, it's all Batman Superman Spiderman and friends, comic characters that were toys and cartoon shows back in the day, the fans of these movies like to be a part of this because not only can they stick with their crowd of meat headed yahoos, but they can relate to the comic book crowd even if they haven't read a single issue of Detective Comics or The Amazing Spiderman.

Well, at least they THINK they fit in.

You see, it's really easy to point out a comic MOVIE fan over a comic BOOK fan, the comic movie fan is the type of person who won't think to mention Green Goblin's outfit in the first Spiderman movie, because it's new to them and they only assume that's what he looked like back in the 70's.

I have long yearned for a champion of the comic book to movie crossover genre to seperate the wannabes with the diehards. There have been a few that rose to the call but they were quickly diminished on the grounds that there are no superheroes and nobody classes them as comic book movies. Examples include From Hell, Road to Perdition, and Sin City, which was nearly the beacon of light for me... but it wasn't to be.

But now, now! Now there is my ray of hope, the one thing I can use to stick it to all the morons who say they read comics, to prove that they are just posers.

Watchmen

Watchmen has everything I need, costumed heroes based on a comic, and people can not deny that, because in their fickle heads only caped crusaders exist initially in the pages held by a sweaty boy.

And people have lost their minds.

I was watching a behind the scenes movie regarding the consturction of "Archie", Nite Owl's flying invention, and the comments were riddled with confused people, people who have previously left long critiquing reviews of comic book movies and demanded respect for them.

Now the high ground they built for themselves has toppled into garbage, they're nothing but trendy hipster posers who try to like the transformation of Harvey Dent to Two-Face but don't realise it happened differently...

Here are some comments

"This would make a LOT more sense if I had read (seen?) The Watchman.

Or heard of it."

"im so confused right now, ive never even heard of the watchman"

"I've heard of it before the trailer and all, but never knew any details about it except that it's supposed to be DA BEST GRAPHIC NOVEL EVERRRRRRRRR"

These people are losing face without knowing it in front of the diehard fans, the people who have read Preacher, Sandman, 8 ball, Milk and Cheese, and even Maus. The comics and graphic novels that forged the foundation it stands upon today, the unsung heroes of the unwashed and unshaven, Grrl Scouts, American Splendor... comics are more than Batman and Robin.

The worst people of these "comic buffs" who have never even HEARD of Watchmen and the idiots who say the following

"Nite Owl is a ripoff of Batman"

"Why is that guy overweight? he can't be a superhero"

"Bullshit trailer, only one guy shows his powers"

"Why is that man naked and blue?"

"LOLS Robert Downy Jnr is in this with a flamethrower"

One surprising thing to come from all this is Milhouse on the Simpsons, I was great to see some comedy gold sneak in to the new watered down episodes, they showed a great knowledge of Alan Moore and his current state of anger towards several companies with this small bit alone:

"Who's your favourite Watchmen baby?!?"

Do yourself a favour and read the book, before you make a stupid comment and become another addition to my ever growing list of morons to ignore.

Watchmen is unlike anything you've ever read or seen before, I'm betting parents will take their children into this movie, and I'm hoping Zack Snyder leaves in the bit with the child eating dogs.

Taser Deaths are the new Black

The image you are looking at is from the front page of www.ninemsn.com news, the text that went with it didn't save with the file so I added it back in using msPaint. The photo shows a crying mother and the photo of her recently deceased son, smiling and looking happy, enjoying life. The photo tells you that the son is yet another statistic in the growing numbers of taser deaths in America, and it'll be sure to bring memories of the taser death of Baron 'Scooter' Pikes they posted on the news sites not long ago, yet another story of abuse of power by the police, designed to shock you and feel for the family.

Baron Pikes was stunned up to 9 times whilst he was handcuffed, which is a disgrace and a completely wrongful death, a tragedy to mankind that the police officer would do such a thing. But this case I read in the news, I see as merely an accident and should not be looked upon as excessive force.

Not only was the teenager tasered only once, but he was "brandishing a knife at officers". Now if you have a 17yr old kid you just caught stealing from 2 cars and he pulled a knife on you what would you do?

If I had a taser I'd zap the bastard.

And that's just what they did. And the kid died, sure it's sad but the did had a FREAKING KNIFE, I feel no sympathy at all.

"The cops may as well have shot my son"? Lady if your kid pulled a knife on me I'd do more than shoot him.

Shirley the Date

Rhys, my attractive younger male friend over at The Plastic Age just released a glimmer of golden comic media this morning that inspired me to reflect upon a previous date with a woman of sorts.

For starters, here's the comic:

There might be some sizing issues, so if you can't read it, go here.

The comic made me chuckle and remember a certain girl I dated back in 2003, let's call her Shirley because there aren't many girls called that anymore.

Shirley and I met on the internets as usual in this day and age, it was a period in my life where I gave up going to clubs to meet whores and I spent alot of my alone time playing warcraft and drinking. Which for some reason attracted certain "geeky" girls, no idea why but whatever.

And before I move on, I'm sure alot of you will think "playing warcraft alone and meeting girls online, NEEEEEEEEERD LOOOOOOOOSER" and for that I thank you, because you've never done anything like that ever in your life now haven't you? What are you doing reading a blog if I'm such a loser? Shouldn't you be at your friend Robbo's house beating your chest and watching porn?

Shirley seemed like an interesting girl, and by that I mean she talked to me for more than a week without getting annoyed at me, and we started talking on the phone and all that other junk internet couples do before meeting up, like sending select photos that show how attractive we might look in certain light and angles. And eventually we decided to meet up in town for coffee.

The day came and I showed up to nobody, which I was expecting so I brought my gameboy along and started playing Turrican. About 15 minutes later halfway through level 3 Shirley showed up and we talked, she looked nothing like her photos, but that didn't matter, she was a walking talking female who might have liked me at that point so I went with it.

20 minutes in to the coffee talking session we established the following things:

- She doesn't like anything to do with World War 2
- I like war

- She enjoys old Warner Brothers Cartoons that nobody enjoyed, like Freakazoid and Bonkers.
- I don't

- She thinks some local band whose name I forgot is the best, and the lead singer is hot.
- I don't care

- Did I mention that lead singer is hot? He really is, he went to my school you know, and he sings so well they're going to be huge, they've been around since like 1996.
- Then why is he limited to small pub gigs on a bimonthly basis?

In the end of the coffee drinking session (she drank 3, I had a coke), I was ready to go home when she asked if we could go shopping... shopping...

SHOPPING... the dread of any single male, why on Earth would this woman think it would be a good idea to take an unemployed uni student SHOPPING??? For starters I had no money, and the only shops around were girl clothing stores.

And you know the type of clothing stores I mean, the discos with clothes. With music so loud it serves as a deterrent to delinquents. But women are drawn to this flashy overpriced centres of crap like flies to... well... crap.

We went to about 4 of these things, Shirley holding my hand, which wasn't too bad at the time, but when I say "holding" it was more "dragging" me into the stores, I was forced to sit in the "husbands chair", the chair outside the change room where the man sits whilst his wife tries on 2 garments but takes 25 minutes, I found my place between a balding man in glasses fiddling on his mobile phone, and another fellow my age probably on a date too, his eyes pleading for an excuse to leave, constantly checking his watch in hope that his time to die was soon.

Shirley picked out some black pants, black dresses and black hats. I asked her jokingly if she'd decided to become goth on the walk over and she gave me a horrified look.

"If you must know, my aunty died last week and I'm looking for an outfit to wear to the funeral"

"Oh, I'm sorry" was my reply, inside I felt like a dick, outside I was still chuckling at the Goth remark.

"It's okay" she said to me, "we weren't that close anyway, I just want to wear something that will make me look good in front of my cousins"

"...wat"

"Is there anything wrong with looking good?"

"........ wat"

I didn't know what to say, this girl was using the death of her Aunty to serve as a stepping ground to buff up her rep with the relatives, she wanted to look the part of some kind of success, maybe it was because she lived in Mayfield and suffered from bogan denial I don't know, all I know is it was time for me to leave, NOW.

She took 3 articles of clothing into the change room, and I knew that gave me half an hour at least, so I called Rhys on my phone and organised a plan.

The plan was to get him to ring in 10 minutes and pretend he was my mother, with some kind of urgent news that took me away from the scene of this slow death. Rhys, in his typical awkward early 2000's fashion, didn't understand what I meant and I forgive him for that as it wasn't the best plan in the world. So I fumbled with the texting functionality of my phone and sent myself a text from my mother.

The text went as follows:

To: Tom
from: Tom
Message: gkaaf11,t

When I got it 20 seconds later I told her I had to go, my mum needs me to pick her up from the car repair center and her lift hasn't shown up. But of course when it came out of my mouth it was more along the lines of "Hey I gotta.... go.... mum... um my mum yeah.. she needs a lift from the car.... place, no lift k?"

Shirley was slightly confused but understand my ramblings, which in hindsight I realise is one of the great skills needed for a wife. She was disappointed but understood, and told me how much fun she had today despite my stupid joke about Goths. I agreed with her, and told her we should go out again soon, which was a blatant lie.

As I was leaving she ran to me and asked for my phone number, which not being a girl or gay male I didn't know off the top of my head, and didn't know how to retrieve apart from reading the number off the piece of paper somewhere in my house, or calling someone on my phone and asking what it is. Shirley said "that's okay I know how to get the number, can I have your phone for a second".

Before I could say anything she took the phone from my hand and looked at it, the screen showed the message from my mother

To: Tom
from: Tom
Message: gkaaf11,t

Shirley looked at me, gave me my phone, turned around, and walked back into the store.

I felt really bad, but then I remembered the Goth joke I made earlier and chuckled.. a bit too loudly though, as she turned around.

I remember the last words she said to me

"Piss Off Tim"
